Situated in the Park Road conservation area by Teddington Station, this 1920s terraced house had remained virtually untouched for over 40 years since a single-skin kitchen extension was built in 1972. The design brief outlined a full house refurbishment including a wrap around extension on the ground floor. The redesign was focused on modernising the entire home, creating open, bright spaces for functional living.
The cellular ground floor was opened-up and extended to the rear to allow the living, kitchen and dining spaces to flow into each other. On the ground floor, five large rooflights were installed, flooding the rooms with natural light and adding an external character to the space.
Running along the party wall, muted grey kitchen units contrast against a bold yellow splashback, while a large island unit punctuates the dining space. To better utilise the available floor space, a small toilet, accessed via a sliding pocket door, was formed underneath the existing staircase. Features like the original ceiling rose were maintained and installed in the new spaces, conserving the home's character.
